![]() ![]() There are also several Lovecraft fan organizations that use the term Cult of Cthulhu to describe their group, though they are more about celebrating works of fiction than promoting a particular world view.Īs literary creations, Cthulhu and his ilk are less than a century old. ![]() Some of these cults combined Lovecraft's mythology with other beliefs, like Satanism, while others seem to accept that Cthulhu and his brethren are fictional, but subscribe to the philosophy that those fictional beings represent. It sounds strange, but over the years there have been a few small "cults" that have actually formed around the Cthulhu mythos. Either way, the return of Cthulhu for most people is thought of as a bad thing. In Lovecraft's fiction, the various cults worshipping Cthulhu usually consist of primitive, or secluded groups of people who either believe that Cthulhu will usher in an era of chaos and uninhibited violence or that he will wipe out all humanity but will thoughtfully kill off the cult quickly and relatively painlessly. I bet it’s an awesome book. Her novel “ Few Are Angels” comes out in may. First of all I want to thank her for this great opportunity so thank you so much!! For my very first author interview I had the honor of interviewing Inger Iversen. ![]() ![]() ![]() Surely, since so many people have loved it, I am reading it incorrectly. This is a novel that I am so surprised that I didn't like that I almost feel like there is something wrong with me and not the novel itself. But at the same time, there are parts that I really didn't like, that I thought were overwritten and needed editing. My struggle with this review is that there are truly sections of this novel that I adored, that I want to send out into the world to be loved by other readers. I was happy to return to most of the narrators in the second part, though of course it was my favorite narrator who we did not see again. ![]() Or, rather, as soon as I did connect with them the story switched. ![]() I was not prepared for the sudden switches in narrator and did not connect with the narrators in the first three sections. I think part of my own failure when it comes to this novel is where my expectations did not meet what I was given. Three of the narrators we return to twice throughout the course of the novel and two are only allowed one section. Great House is structured much like a collection of connected short stories, with several different narrators. Overall, I found it to be uneven, with parts I loved and parts I didn't. There were times when I considered giving up this novel, but something about it kept me reading and I am glad I finished the novel. ![]() My reaction to this novel is significantly more lukewarm than I ever imagined it would be. ![]() ![]() ![]() Through it all, there is the thread of faith that makes this read magical and brings a deeper side to the characters. Sarah and Will make a great team, especially as they challenge each other’s views. Usually, I end up disliking time travel books, but I had heard so many good things about this one that I decided to give it a shot, and I’m glad I did! Ashley Townsend’s pacing is perfect, each chapter leaving you wanting more. ![]() Honestly, I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. But can she trust Will and the Shadow? And will she be able to get back to her own time? ![]() Sarah finds herself working with the mysterious Shadow and Will, the handsome blacksmith, in order to get back to her time and save the people she cares about. ![]() When she and her sister are swept 900 years into the past, she finds herself ensnared in a plot to save the king, but as with every good story, things do not go as planned. Sarah Matthews just wants an adventure before she goes to college, but the one she gets is far more than she bargained for. “No, the thing that was causing her to be so pensive on this dreary day was the fact that nothing exciting had happened over the summer.” ![]() ![]() And his dialogue flows as naturally as anything ever written. Alexandre Dumas was brilliant with action, brilliant with humor, and light spirits. Other than that, don't deny yourself this listening pleasure. You might want to consider what will be tolerable to you over an extended listening time. I don't regret choosing his version over Vance's, though, simply because his pacing, his sense of drama, and of humor, are flawless and engaging. And as it's a quite lengthy novel, it became skin-crawling as well. He captures the personalities of each character, spot-on, and not only that: some of his vocal characterizations add to the already rich characters! What keeps him from getting a four-star rating is his oh-so annoying way of pronouncing each name with a hyper-correct and painful enunciation with extreme inflections. John Lee's performance seemed more rollicking, more exciting. I chose him as a narrator because, even though I adore Simon Vance, the sample just told me that I'd be nodding off somewhere along the way. And though John Lee doesn't earn a four-star rating, it was wonderful to listen to. ![]() How can anyone NOT like The Three Musketeers?!?
